Strategic Communication - Why It Is Important?

My major here at High Point University is Strategic Communications. Communications is very broad so strategic communications help to narrow it down. This major can include public relations, advertising, social media, marketing and more. Being strategic means being proactive, making decisions of data, being persuasive, setting goals and finding ways to make yourself and those around you better. This article does a great job with describing what a strategy is and how that ties into strategic communications. So, strategy is similar to building relationships with publics through research and dialogue. Some implications of strategy can be ethics, adaptive flexibility, relationships, data, public affairs and cultural awareness.
In my opinion, this article did a great job explaining what strategic communications is and why it is important. It also did a great job listing the pros and cons of it. I always get questions about my major because people instantly get confused when they hear the strategic part. People usually assume I wanna be on TV or doing something in the broadcasting field. I think it is important for us to know exactly what our major stands for and has to offer to educate those who do not know. Our major is important just like all the other elements of communications. I enjoyed reading this article and I gained plenty of knowledge from it.
